19 June 2018

Cloudy but warm with sunny spells. Beginning to get a twinge in my tooth. It will just be my luck if this becomes a raging toothache 'cos I'm going away on holiday very soon 😟.

Spent some time in the garden cutting the grass, pruning and generally tidying up. Here's another plant quiz a bit easier than last weeks. What is this?

18 June 2018

Cloudy but warm. Went to the local shop. A woman was complaining to another about how "close" it was. Both women were wearing fleeces and one had a waterproof jacket on top!

Now I am reading The Rings of Saturn by WG Sebald as recommended by Robert Mc Farlane on Twitter. You can join in and follow the reading group here #TheReadingsofSaturn

17 June 2018

Remembering my Dad today. I miss him. Thoughts with all those Pa-less people thinking of their fathers today.

16 June 2018

At last, rain! A fairly heavy downpour but we could still do with some more!

15 June 2018

We still haven't had the promised rain. Today it's off to Manchester for my monthly meet-up with Adrian and Peter which ended up rather predictably as a tour of some of Manchester's iconic pubs.

14 June 2018

Jungle cat.

* the answer to quiz of the week is Jerusakem Atrichoke.

13 June 2018

Cloudy, but no sign of rain yet. Back to the foodbank and Citizens Advice. The first job as ever is to water the beds. Very gloomy looking photo but it was reasonably bright and warm.

12 June 2018

Cooler today with more cloud. It's looking like rain, which will be welcome for the garden.

Now, opposite our house, there is a BT junction box and every day there is a van parked nearby while a man fiddles with the wires inside. Sometimes there are two men, and I've seen as many as four. But today we had a record, possibly a world record - there were seven men and I had to get a photo! I could write a book about that box including the problem it created for our broadband but I'll leave it here.

It looks like there are only six but note the guy who is stood by the driver's window of the van on the left.

11 June 2018

Quiz of the week: what is this plant? Clue - there are many of them in the pot.

For the answer see 14 June.

10 June 2018

Another warm, dry day. Is been warm and sunny with little rain now for over a month. Had to get a picture of these wonderful roses that I came across on my way to local shops.

Sunday 10 June 2018

9 June 2018

Cloudy day but still very warm. No rain. Went for a walk down by the Weaver.

Vale Royal Locks

8 June 2018

I year on from the election result which was so good for Labour. At the moment there is a massive row about the railways after the introduction of a new timetable caused chaos nationally. We're particularly badly hit in the North where hundreds of Northern Rail trains have been cancelled and there is still no service to the Lake District.  Rail nationalisation into an integrated service is now essential.

7 June 2018

Back to Speke and the van is finally fixed! It was a minor problem with the 'mudguard' but I'm glad it is sorted.

Peonies are looking even better!

6 June 2018

Back to the food bank today. Had to walk down there but really enjoyed the walk on a warm sunny morning.

Spent the afternoon in the garden. Pleased to see there are plenty of Foxgloves. They are self-seeding which suits me fine.

5 June 2018

More gardening. Went for a walk down to the local shops. Had to take a picture of this magnificent Beech tree.

4 June 2018

Had to get the sprinkler out to water the veg patch. Just wondering how long it will be before we have a hosepipe ban.

3 June 2018

Another lovely day. Peonies are blooming

Sunday 3 June 2018

2 June 2018

Went to the Big Lunch at Grozone. The weather was cloudy but warm. A bit disappointing due to the low turnout. Last year there must have been over 100 people there.

1 June 2018

The first day of summer and a glorious one at that. I took a trip to Knutsford for a look round and stopped for a cool beer. Some new reading as well. Knutsford is a vibrant town which is let down badly by town centre traffic. It's Range Rover land. The sooner they pedestrianise the centre to better!

31 May 2018

Annoying day. Had a 70 mile round trip in the van to the commercial vehicle's garage in Speke. As usual, they didn't have the part to replace a damaged 'mudguard'. That means another trip back next week, another 70 miles and another 3 hour wait for them to do something!

The photo I took sums up my feelings about that.

30 May 2018

Back to the foodbank. More gardening. Got another bed cleared and some peas, potatoes and spinach planted. Yet again dealing with concrete soil. Please give us some more rain!

Citizen's Advice in the afternoon.

29 May 2018

Yet another glorious day. This is one of the best Springs we've had for a long time. Garden-wise we could have done with more rain but its been 20oC plus for over a week and fairly warm in the evenings as well.

Today Peter came over and we went for the long walk by the river ending up in The Bowling Green and the Salty Dog. Great walk and good beer.

28 May 2018

More sun, more cat sheltering.

He remained under here for about an hour.

27 May 2018

A day in the garden. Our cat Rio doesn't like hot sunny weather and is always trying to find some sort of shelter. This time it's under the Gooseberry bushes.

26 May 2018

Lovely evening so we went to the Red Lion for a few beers.

25 May 2018

Today we had some rain which started early and got heavier as the day went on. This is really good for the garden. We went over to the mother-in-law's and it was curiously misty - almost like fog.

24 May 2018

Another warm, sunny day. Off to Grozone for a talk about Transition to a group of about 20 people including Grozone volunteers.

23 May 2018

Off to the foodbank in the morning. Today I volunteered to help sort out the garden at the rear of the hub. Little did I know that the imported soil was clay-heavy and had set like concrete in the dry weather - it hasn't rained for a week. I had to add tons of water using only a bucket but got some planting started.

22 May 2018

My cousin Liam, who is a reporter on the Liverpool Echo, was hosting a book launch in Liverpool. The book was Game Changer by Steve Howell. I had a really good and relaxed look around before the event, which started at 6pm, meeting up with Simon and Tom. We went to the Kazimier Garden for a few beers.

21 May 2018

Another sunny day. Went for another walk down by the river with Susie. Lots of gardening still to do!

20 May 2018

The reception was held at the Stables, Thornham Hall. I was lucky enough to be able to stay at the Hall which was rather quaint, and breakfast was served by the Lady of the Manor.

The Tower is the only remaining part of the original Hall which burnt down in a fire.

19 May 2018

Really great day. Good Weather. After a four hour drive, I got the Lyn's by about 1.30pm, an hour before the wedding was due to start. Lyn, my friend from the Environment Agency was marrying Mark in Wyverstone. Good to see Kelly, Louise, Gary and Helen as well.
