26 February 2023

The good news is that Spring has arrived!

24 February 2023

On my return journey I stopped off at the wonderful Tebay services and purchased some provisions but forgot to take a photo.

However, since I haven't said much about the state of broken Britain this year a quick update. Strike action is widespread and rumbling on in the NHS, Royal Mail, Railways and many others. There is a cost of living crisis with sky high energy bills despite the fact that the price of gas has now fallen even though the conflict in Ukraine is still raging. Our rivers and beaches are polluted with sewage. Nicola Sturgeon has resigned as leader of the SNP. Now there are shortages of fresh vegetables, particularly tomatoes. Teresa Coffey, the goon who is environment minster has suggested we eat turnips instead! What a fucking shambles the UK has become!

So here's a quick poem what I wrote:

Turnips

I’m ‘avin turnips

For my tea

Cos that’s all

That’s available

In the land of the free

I don’t get fresh

With Guernsey toms

No more

I’ve even shown tinned tomatoes the door

A special mention for P & J's cat Jasper. Jasper is an elderly diabetic. I fear he won't be with us much longer but he's a lovely creature. Friendly and purring.

We visited the botanical gardens and on our final night we went to a restaurant Sabzi in Leith. We had a great curry - definitely recommended!

22 February 2023

Today we had to look after Paul's grandson Jackie and we went for a walk across the Meadows and up to the museum. Jackie slept most of the time. It was a good day out.

21 February 2023

On Monday the 20th I drove 240 miles to see my friends Paul and Janet in Edinburgh. Didn't get a single photo on the way up. The following day we went for a relaxing walk up the Water of Leith to Warriston Cemetery.

6 February 2023

Another Monday walk with Peter. Today we went to the Macclesfield Forest from Trentabank to the standing stone. A really good circuit and yet another amazing sunset.

5 February 2023

Susie and I went for a cycle ride around Hartford, Whitegate and Kingsmead, ending up with a crafty pint in the Oddfellows. Once again, There was a fantastic sunset with pink clouds.

2 February 2023

Another walk by the Weaver. I went across the field to find out how boggy it was. Its much improved. After a dry week or so the bog, caused by weeks of rain, had pretty much dried up.

The railway viaduct over the Weaver.

Sun setting behind the wood.

30 January 2023

Peter and I met up  at the Holly bush in Bollington and went for a walk  down the Middlewood way returning via the Macclesfield canal. It was a lovely winters day with fine views, especially of White Nancy, on our return.

29 January 2023

Susie and I went for a walk round the village. When we were returning home we saw a very mysterious cloud as the sun was setting.

24 January 2023

Another grand day out. A trip to Wincle with cousin Simon. We walked to Lud's Church and enjoyed a pint at the legendary brewery.

23 January 2023

My Birthday! I am now officially a pensioner. Had a lovely walk with Peter along the Weaver.

22 January 2023

Celebrating my birthday with Susie, Adrian, and Peter. We went for beers in the local and a curry at the Bombay Quay.

20 January 2023

Friday. Susie and I went on one of our favourite local walks to Old Pale in Delamere forest.  It was a fine day but the views of Manchester and Liverpool weren't as good as I had hoped because of the haze.

19 January 2023

More snow in our garden. There were problems on the road which became an ice sheet. Somebody called the council and eventually, a gritter arrived. Met up with my friend Paul in a local cafe and took a picture of Jodrell Bank from a footpath in the village.
