24 August 2020

I need some new walking boots so I took the risk of going in a shop for the first time in ages. Got a good pair but I wasn't  not entirely happy about the covid precautions and of course managed to get stuck behind someone at the till for about ten minutes.

The I went on to have a look at Rod's Secret Garden which is one of our Transition Northwich projects. Its a great space and it was good to meet Alison there.

23 August 2020

The weather is cooler and fresher. Very variable with storms predicted for next week. We've had warm sunny spells and some showers. We went for a walk by the river through the cornfield.

Another day and another picture of Rio. He is gtting on a bit and fed up with rivalry from younger cats. I know how he feels.

19 August 2020

Today I decided to try and distract myself by learning to play the piano. I'm a rank beginner but I do find it fairly therapeutic. I can now play When the Saints Come Marching In with one hand! I should have started this ages ago.

18 August 2020

Still good weather. I had to phone up the dentist and try to arrange another appointment. I got one but it's not for another 7 days! Good job its more discomfort than agony.

Here are some more of the fruits of my labour.

17 August 2020

I seem to spend most of my time these days using an antibacterial mouthwash. This is good stuff but its expensive. There are cheaper alternatives.

16 August 2020

My gum is still sore :( But at least its been warm and fairly sunny. About 20ÂșC

13 August 2020

Went for a great walk with Peter. One of my all-time favourites. Shining Tor, Cheshire's highest peak rises above the Goyt Valley. The climb to the top from the car park is relatively easy even in this heat. There are good views from the top and then a ridge walk to Pym's Chair via Cats Tor. The return to the car park passes the ruins of Errwood Hall which feature in Alan Garner's wonderful book The Moon of Gomrath. A great day out. The only disappointment was the haze.

I bought this book in 2019 and can't believe that I've only just finished now. It's inspirational. One of the major barriers to dealing with the need to bring about change in the face of the climate crisis is a failure of imagination - being able to imagine a better world. In this book, Rob Hopkins deals brilliantly with that problem and the book is packed with ideas for solutions.

11 August 2020

Went to the dentist today and had an extraction. Hopefully, this will sort out the problem I've had. Fingers crossed!

There was a huge thunderstorm last night very hot and humid.

Meanwhile more flowers.

7 August 2020

Hmmm my ongoing gum problem is frustrating but the ABs seem to be kicking in. A least the weather is fine. Still very warm and sunny with temperatures around 28C.
Yet more flowers from the garden.

6 August 2020

Great to have a socially distancing visit from Adrian today, The weather was very kind. We were able to eat outdoors and managed to stay out until 11.30 without rain or feeling cold. Adrian slept in our campervan.

5 August 2020

My gum infection is back and it looks like I'm going to be having a tooth out! In the meantime here's a picture from my beautiful garden.

Beautiful sky!

1 August 2020

No post for the latter part of the week but I had two bad days on Thursday and Friday. First, my walk withy Peter on a beautiful, sunny day had to be cancelled. Then, on Friday, I had to cancel my visit to see my cousin Simon because Gtr Manchester went into lockdown, of sorts.  I couldn't sit with him in his back garden but I could have met him in the pub!!! I was angry and pissed off. Anyway, we went for a walk in the woods and when I saw this photo I was annoyed it was slightly blurred - but it does give it a strange ethereal quality.
