3 March 2020

Out in the van and a bit of shopping. I went to Waitrose and got my free copy of The Guardian. My Dad used to buy the Manchester Guardian and I read it every day for over 40 years. Not any more. I look online occasionally but I won't pay for it, not after the shocking and relentless anti-Corbyn campaign which helped Labour lose the last election.

Marina is looking good.

2 March 2020

It's now light until about 6pm and is beginning to start to feel like winter is over. The Blackbird is singing and the Daffodils are in full bloom.

In the evening I went to a meeting at The Venue to discuss climate change. We're trying to influence local councillors. So far not much luck!

1 March 2020

Good job I set off early. Strong gales, snow, sleet, and heavy rain. Storm Jorge. The road from Edinburgh via Biggar to the M74 was pretty grim. No flooding as such but covered in large puddles and had to be negotiated very carefully. Gales all the way back home and quite tricky on exposed parts of the M6.

Got back at 1.30 and went for a walk with Susie. Good to see the wild garlic in the woods. Spring is here!

29 February 2020

A much better day. It wasn't raining. Bright and sunny but the wind was howling and some real wind chill going on - brrrrrrrrrrrr. Paul and I went to visit Janet and her sister Ruth who were selling at the flea market in the Drill Hall, then on into town to meet my good friend Nat at Waverley station for lunch in the City Restaurant. In the evening we went to an Italian seafood restaurant in Leith.

28 February 2020

Late-night last night som a lie-in and brunch. The weather was cold and fairly foul so we went to the Museum of Modern Art.

In case you are wondering the piano was playing

Off to Edinburgh. I'm driving there for the first time in ages. Weather forecast was poor but it turned out to be a straightforward trip. Lots of snow on the Lakeland hills made a fine view from the M6.

Arrived at 3pm. Two stops and robbed for the price of petrol. I was too cautious topping up at a service station - something a registered later - I could have saved myself about £8!

Great to see Paul and Janet again. Toor much beer, wine and a late but great night.

Anyone who follows this very obscure blog may have noticed my obsession with the local barn on Eaton Lane which is very photogenic.

25 February 2020

Down to the shop for some supplies and I couldn't resist taking this picture of the local cricket club sign. Notice the rose? Has it been there since Valentine's day? Who put it there?

24 February 2020

Monday. Things are much the same weather-wise. Another storm expected at the weekend - Storm Jorge - when I'm off to Edinburgh so I'm hoping I make it back in one piece. Meanwhile we are still getting some sunny spells and it's a wee bit drier.

23 February 2020

Yes, the party was still going on into the early hours!

22 February 2020

Went to Stuart & Shelley's belated Burns Supper night. We haven't seen them for ages due to elderly parent problems so it was good to catch up with them and old friends Mary, Enea, Anthea, and Pete.

21 February 2020

Much better day although it started badly. I went to Manchester to meet up with Peter to see Bill Mitchell talking about Modern Monetary Theory. I went for the train and it was cancelled! An hour to wait in the rain and cold. Good old Northern Rail. It was the only train cancelled that day. I managed to find a cafe about 10 minutes walk from the station so it wasn't too miserable a wait.

The lecture was very good. MMT isn't really a theory. It describes how governments with their own currency create and spend money. In essence, there is no shortage of money, which is what we are being told by our government.

We managed to get in some craft pints in the Lass O'Gowrie and the City Arms.

20 February 2020

I'd like to be able to post a picture of the Sun. We have had some sunny spells and we're lucky to be well away from any flooding but the rain goes on and on.....

19 February 2020

Another picture of the ongoing rain 😕

18 February 2020

It's cold a rainy. So here's a picture of my Lava Lamp. I've had one for over 25 years. This one is a replacement my Mrs bought for me about 5 years ago.
