I've been writing a blog post on isolation called 'My Prison Dairy'. That made me think of Gramsci. Gramsci was the general secretary of the Italian Communist Party. He was imprisoned by the fascist dictator Mussolini. Whilst in prison he wrote a series of essays that were published as The Prison Notebooks. He suffered from health problems all his life and dies in a clinic after being released at the age of 46.
