26 September 2018

Set off in bright, sunny weather but as soon as we got beyond Preston we encountered dark threatening clouds, swiftly followed by rain. On the A591 beyond Kendal, things brightened up a bit. We arrived at the Coniston site about 2pm as expected and set up our pitch. The first thing I noticed was it seemed about five degrees cooler - brrrrr. We've spent too much time in the South recently - need to harden up again. It's about thirty minutes walk to the centre of the village and better if you take the lakeside path that goes via Coniston hall, otherwise, you have to walk on the road.

We visited the Ship Inn which is the nearest pub to the campsite. The local Doctor has a collection of Messerschmitt's, housed in a garage next to the pub.
